26 JUNE – The night after the day in Yosmite

Good evening to you all charming blogreaders!

Now it´s time for some updates, let´s take it all from the beginning…
It started after about one hour at Arlanda. Poor Lena got stuck at the toilet, she could not open the door and were gone for like twenty minutes. When we realized that her stomach definitely was not in that bad moode Rebecka went after her. Luckily she managed to open the door with some help from a cleaner. At that moment the boarding almost were over and Nathalie and Louise were stressed out. In addition we heard our names called out from every loudspeaker in the whole waiting area. So embarrassing! Anyway, we had to go boarding or else we would miss the plane.
When we finally were onboard we were happy and excited once again, but there was a long journey ahead of us.

When we arrived to LAX (Las Angeles international airport) we were astonished over the size of the airport and the people from around the world. We talked about the funny things ahead and Nathalie told us some useful stuff including how much the gasoline costs (which were 5 dollars/gallon) also that you get 3,785 L/ 1 gallon.
The car we are renting costs 5000 SEK for a month and we know that you've been very worried about our daily budget. But just relax, we got everything under control. We counted out that our daily budget is 500 SEK /person.

                                                                 California guurls!

 19 June

This was the day where we could truly say that our adventure had just begun!

We went to see the famous Hollywood sign that is located at Hollywood Hills since 1923.
As we stood there and took pictures with our camera a very educated guy named Chris, came up to us and started talking. He knew that we weren’t from the US. He started to talk about the story behind the Hollywood sign. He said that the sign was originally an advertisement for real estates in the area and it said “’Hollywoodland”. The white letters filled with light bulbs were almost 33 feet high and it cost over 200 000 dollars to build the sign. In 1939 they stopped maintaining it and it fell.
Then we wondered if it was Hollywoodland, what had happened with the “land” part on the sign? He explained that the Chamber of Commerce took over and restored it, removed the light bulbs and removed the last four letters “land”.
He asked us if we knew that the actress Peg Entwistle had committed suicide by throwing herself from the letter “H”. Our answer was no, we actually didn’t know that. It was very interesting to listen to him and he seemed like a really cool guy.

Later that day we went to see the Hollywood Walk of Fame that is the sidewalks along the streets Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street. The sidewalks are paved with square stones. You can see red stars and each star shows the name of the honored person and what that person does, for example if it's a singer, actor etc. There are more than 2000 stars placed out.

We spotted a man in the street who was dressed up as Michael Jackson and who danced just like him. Lena also got a Michael Jackson feeling so she wanted to show some of her moves too. Wow! What a day, we all got a good laugh!

In the evening we went to see one of the most famous Hollywood attractions, the Grauman’s Chinese Theater. It was so cool that we were at the most famous theater in the world! It was more beautiful in the evening than during the day. Look how beautiful pictures we've taken!

21 June

After three days in Los Angeles, our trip went on to San Francisco. We arrived late in the evening, and we were all really tired, so basically, all we did was to get to know Lena’s friends, ate some food and then went straight to bed.

Some nice guys in beutiful colores...

The next day was the gayparade! We were all really excited to see all the people and everything, and none of us had been to a gayparade before. When we got to the Market Street, we were stunned. It was so many people! There are not a lot of such events going on in Sweden, and we weren’t used to such crowded areas. But man, was it fun! There were rainbow flags and t-shirts everywhere, and a lot of people are dressed out. It was great to see that there were so many people there to support the gay community.
We also met a guy called Mike, and he told us that he’d been to the parade for three years now. He said, with a pink balloon in his right hand and a rainbow flag, that it was great to be able to be yourself for a while. Afterwards he took us to a great little restaurant in the end of a narrow alley that served a greeeat strawberry-cheesecake.
We talked for several hours and got his phone-number. He was a great guy!

After a short night, we took us out to Pier 39 to watch all the sea lions that was lying on the pier, sunbathing. It was so many, and they made a terrible noice! We took a lot of pictures, and then caught the ferry out to the prison island Alcatraz. We walked around with a guide that was telling us a lot about the fortress, and it was really interesting. Unfortunately, Louise’s camera-battery ran out and she was quite upset that she could hardly take any pictures.

Listen to this song and enjoy!

24 June

The next morning, our road trip continued to Yosemite, the huge national park. We got up reeeeeeally early, got in the car and drove for several hours, until we reached our hotel.

After a long night's sleep, we finally woke up and felt so excited for this adventure!
We're in Yosmite National Park at our hotel, Oakhurst Lodge, and we're totally exhausted. We've been hiking all day long and guess what?! We met a really nice couple that wanted us to try some climbing. They told us that rock climbing is an important part of Yosemite and of course we wanted to try that.

But let’s take this from the beginning. We woke up at 8 am, ate some breakfast and packed our bags. We were ready to meet the nature, in fact Louise was so exited and I think it was something about this free feeling because she started to yodel.
“JODDELADIHOOAAHA!”
It was strange. However, I think we got to thank Louise for this, because this nice couple came to us and wondered what she was doing. We told them that we didn’t know. They laughed and said that they were going to climb and they wondered where we came from and what we were doing here.We told them that we are from Sweden and we said that we wanted to see this beautiful nature.
We became friends and they said that they wanted to show us everything in Yosemite! But… They only showed us how to rock-climbing. It was scary, but really fun at the same time! When we finally got up the mountain, we couldn’t say a word… It was amazing. We were totally dumb and we couldn’t believe what we saw. The view was so beautiful and you know what? We saw some bears down there and eagles in the sky. It was freaking awesome! We'll never forget that moment. This day was so coo,l but too bad that Lena dropped her camera in the lake when she tried to take a photograph of a fish...But we all have a camera so it’s okay.

Love
Lena, Louise, Nathalie & Rebecka
